Statewide and common in North Carolina, Small's Ragwort grows in a variety of habitats from roadsides and other disturbed areas to forests.

Possibly two undescribed species of Packera are rumored to exist in Clay Co., NC. These 6 photos appear to represent at least one of them.

Note basal and cauline leaves present. Basal leaf bases are cordate but would be cuneate if this were P. paupercula.

The following four photos are from the same general area (calcaerous, serpentine soils) as the two photos above. Note the plants above are fairly tomentose while these are not. The leaf bases, however are similar in the two populations.
