Rare (State Rank = S1) in North Carolina, several of these plants were found in two locations on Beech Mt. between 4500' and 4800', both in Watauga Co.

Formerly considered as Epilobium angustifolium, Weakley's Flora supports calling the Appalachian version Chamerion platyphyllum.

Common in the coastal plain in wet ditches & pond edges.

Several species of Oenothera are found throughout NC and identification can be tricky as most of the plant keys refer to fruit characteristics. Nevertheless various sundrops are found statewide in a variety of habitats.
