Common statewide in North Carolina in forested habitats, and also known as Downy Rattlesnake-Plantain, this orchid is distinctive even when not in flower.

Old flowering stalk with ripening fruits. When ripe, fruits will become little capsules with hundreds of tiny, dust-like seeds.
