Common in the western 2/3 of NC, Crownvetch is introduced from Europe and used to stabilize roadsides.

Crownvetch is used as a caterpillar host plant for the Wild Indigo Duskywing, and the widespread use of this plant by highway departments has apparently resulted in the increase in population and distribution of Wild Indigo Duskywings.
