Recently, the genus Lycopodium has been split into several genera. Shining Clubmoss is found in moist forests in the NC mountains and piedmont.

Shining Clubmoss has shiny leaves with a few teeth near the leaftips.

As you can see, this the classification of this taxon is unsettled. It grows statewide and is common in openings in various forested habitats.

Common in the NC coastal plain (rare elsewhere), Foxtail Clubmoss grows in wet, sandy soils like those found in pine savannahs.
