Found mostly in the outer coastal plain in NC, B. laevis (also known as Showy Bur-marigold) grows around the edges of marshes, ponds, ditches, and other wet habitats.

This plant is described in the literature as glabrous, however, some individuals are clearly at least sparsely to moderately pubescent.

In FL, this plant is very common and is a popular nectar source for several species of butterflies.

While this species is frequently referred to as "Spanish Needles", that common name is "officially" given to a different species of Bidens on the USDA Plants data page website, where B. alba is given the common name "Romerillo", which I've never heard in common usage.
