Nearly 90 species comprising several genera of green lacewings are reported in North America. Note the finely reticulated pattern of veins in the wings. Green Lacewings are valuable insects as they eat many garden pests such as aphids.

A few species of green lacewing larvae adorn themselves with tiny bits of debris, which apparently confer some protective camouflage or distateful value! Note that among other things, the debris is composed of tiny shed insect exoskeletons (seen better in the view below).

At first this looks like a small piece of junk, but note the little legs protruding beneath.
