Spotted Turtle (Clemys guttata)

In NC, found only in the eastern half of the state where rare to uncommon in and around shallow bodies of water including swamps, streams, and wet fields.

Easily recognized by having a few, scattered yellow to orange spots on a dark shell and body, this individual was crossing a road at the refuge.
