Friday's Blue (Plebejus fridayi)

Recognition of this species has not yet made it to the field guides. Field identification is quite difficult as Friday's Blue is very similar to Melissa Blue and Anna's Blue. Many thanks go to Paul Opler for the determinations below! According to Paul, Friday's Blues are closely associated with sites containing their caterpillar host plant, Whitney Locoweed (Astragalus whitneyi). He also pointed out that the reflective blue-green scales almost completely fill the submarginal spots in this species.
