Cofaqui Giant-Skipper (Megathymus cofaqui)

Adults of this species have not been reported in NC for more than a decade, however there's still hope this species persists somewhere in the state. One difficulty in seeing these butterflies is that they seemingly only fly for a short period of time around dusk!

John Dole found this individual and was able to snap a couple of great pics right before it disappeared.

These pics were taken with my first digital camera right after I had gotten it and before I learned how to take pics in very dim light. (The auto focus does not work well under these conditions!)
