Thanks to Becky Duggan and family for finding this bird at their feeders, and for opening their home to a bunch of birders to come and enjoy this first NC record! And a big thanks, too, to Dwayne Martin for getting the word out and helping the Duggans host this bird!

The bird came to this platform feeder a couple of times (for a few minutes each time) during the hour that we stayed. Based on plumage, this bird is most likely a young male.

All of these photos were digiscoped by hand-holding a Nikon CoolPix 4500 to the eyepiece of a Kowa TSN-824 spotting scope. The light was dim, so photography was especially tricky.

The bird enjoyed a sunny perch in the morning light in the hardwood trees a couple of hundred yards away when it wasn't coming to the feeder.

Note how the lighting makes a huge difference in the apparent color of the bird between the top 3 photos and the bottom 3 photos.
