This Painted Bunting was found by Jeff Pippen and Jacob Socolar in Durham, NC during the Christmas Bird Count. We found it about a hundred meters from the East end of Bennett Memorial Rd. off Neal Rd. (Neal Rd. goes South from US 70 between Hwy 751 and Cole Mill Rd.) The bird was in some brush quite close to the road near a large dirt/mud/gravel mound. Thanks go to Josh Rose for suggesting we check out this location during the count!

As far as we know, this is the first Durham County record of Painted Bunting. I digiscoped these photos with a Nikon CoolPix 4500 through a KOWA TSN-824 for rare bird documentation purposes. They're blurry 'cuz my hands were shaking from the cold drizzle!
