Here are some birds found during a family trip to New Zealand, 4-16 Dec 2018. We spent a few days on the North Island and almost two weeks on the South Island, including a couple days at Stewart/Ulva Islands. Photos were taken with various cameras, including a Canon EOS 60D and an iPhone, so the quality varies considerably! Species are arranged in taxonomic order, and common names mostly follow eBird.

It definitely had a darker gray hood than the other Thalassarche we saw that day, but my photos clearly show a white neck, so perhaps this is a White-capped or another taxon in the Shy complex? It was actually our first albatross of the day, and I never got good lighting for photos. |
