"Nelson's Gulls" are a hybrid taxon, resulting from a Herring Gull breeding with a Glaucous Gull.

Presumed Nelson's Gulls are usually identified by having a mix of characteristics of their parents, Herring Gull and Glaucous Gull. Therefore they tend to be slightly larger than Herrings yet smaller than Glaucous. They also tend to be paler than Herrings yet darker than Glaucous.
