Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)

Two species of swans are currently commonly seen in North Carolina, the native wintering Tundra Swan and the introduced invasive Mute Swan. Mute Swans are native to Europe and are becoming an ecological pest in the Great Lakes and northern mid-atlantic states. In recent years, Mute Swans have been seen year-round at Pea Island.
