One of the ecological problems with starlings in the US is that they frequently outcompete our native birds for good nesting cavities, often a limited resources in our forests.

Starlings often feed in open, grassy areas. Increased forest fragmentation results more forest edge with grassy habitats, which results in an increase of starlings and cowbirds at the expense of our native songbirds.
