Also known as Royal Paulownia this species in native to Asia and has become a pest invasive tree in the U.S. At least it's interesting to look at with large clumps of lavendar flowers in the spring and very large heart-shaped leaves in the summer.

Recent molecular evidence suggests this genus should be elevated to family status: Paulowniaceae.
