Pronounced "tie-tie", this plant is common in the sandhills and coastal plain in North Carolina in various habitats from pine savannas to pocossins to swamps. Generally not a great nectar source for butterflies, occasionally some individuals will attract lots of insects including butterflies such as this Common Buckeye.

Plants may be less than a meter tall or they may be small trees.
