Taper-tailed Darner (Gomphaeschna antilope)

Uncommon to probably fairly rare in NC, this species flies from spring to early summer.

The male (right) attacked the female (left), which may be a Harlequin or Taper-tailed, drove her to the ground and beheaded her before flying off.
