Shadow Darner (Aeshna umbrosa)

Probably fairly common but rarely reported, Shadow Darners are found throughout the NC mountains, piedmont, and western edge of the coastal plain. One reason these dragons are seldomly seen is that they reportedly fly mostly at dusk in shaded habitats (e.g. openings in forests near streams).

Note two straight, slender, yellow thoracic stripes and small pale green abdomenal markings (with lateral pale spot absent on s-10).
