Blue Corporal (Ladona deplanata)

(Formerly placed in the genus Libellula.) Widespread in the piedmont and coastal plain of NC, this species flies only in the springtime. Males become light blue, while females are reddish to brownish. Its distribution in the mountains of NC is not well known. Note the light stripes on the front of the thorax.
